What qualifications do I need to join the signing choir?None. Just a williness to learn and commit to weekly rehearsals, take part in performances, fundraising events and support the ethos of the choir. We encourage you to take a formal BSL qualification with a local Deaf centre or college to be fully immersed in Deaf culture.

UniformYou will need to purchase your own uniform from our supplier. This is once we have mutually agreed that you wish to be an active, supportive choir member. The uniform consists of a choir t-shirt and soft shell jacket with the choir logo and smart black trousers and smart black shoes. During winter months for outside performances fine woollen/ cotton white/ cream gloves may be worn.

Is the Signing Choir run voluntarily?Yes. It was setup in 2009 because of and for the local community and continues to be led voluntarily to give bring together Deaf and Hearing people in our communities; to share the love and joy of the vibrant visual language and break down communication barriers. The choir has overheads just like any group. This is paid through members' small subs. Performance collections go to Deaf related projects (see our projects page) and to replace choir equipment as required.
